An Initial Public Offering(IPO) refers to the process of offering shares of a private corporation to the public in a new stock issuance for the first time.
Companies issue IPOs to grow and expand. Going public gives them access to a lot of money, which can be used to facilitate acquisitions, fund research projects, pay off debts, or undertake other financial endeavors.
